FAQ

Questions, answered clearly

How accounts, public stacks, prices, recommendations, catalog data, and future member benefits work.

What is this service?

This is a public software discovery community organized around complete software stacks. Members can document the products they use, optional pricing, ratings, and software changes over time.

Is it free to join?

Yes. Creating an account, publishing stacks, rating products, and using current discovery features are free.

Are member stacks public?

Yes during the MVP. Public stacks help other members understand which products are used together. Individual price reports have a separate visibility setting and can remain hidden.

Can I hide what I pay?

Yes. Price sharing is optional. A hidden price is excluded from public stack totals, page markup, and public responses. You may also leave pricing blank or explicitly record a product as free.

How are recommendations created?

Recommendations currently use reviewed software relationships, documented integrations, products observed together in public member stacks, and adoption among members in the same industry. Every result includes an explanation.

How do public rankings work?

Most used counts distinct members with a product active in a public member stack. Highest rated uses a confidence adjustment and most recommended uses answered recommendation prompts; both require a minimum sample. Archived records, team examples, system accounts, and affiliate status do not affect rank.

Does the recommendation browser use AI?

The current recommendation browser is deterministic and does not make an AI request. AI may assist with structuring public information when a member submits a missing product, but the member must review the result before publication.

Who creates the MapMyApps Team stacks?

MapMyApps Team stacks are useful launch content assembled by our team. They are excluded from community ratings, popularity, adoption, and recommendation-learning signals.

How current is software pricing?

Official pricing is stored with its source and verification date. Vendor pricing can change by region, seats, usage, taxes, or promotions, so members should verify it on the vendor’s website. Member-reported prices are stored separately.

Do affiliate links affect rankings?

No. Affiliate status is stored separately and never changes rankings or recommendation scores. Eligible outbound links are labeled with a disclosure and the sponsored link attribute.

Are member deals available today?

Not yet as a general benefit. Verified member offers may be added when vendor partnerships become available, and the site labels this as a planned benefit until then.

Can I add software that is missing?

Yes. Submit the product’s official public website from the stack builder. The service gathers candidate details, then asks you to confirm the name, description, icon, and category before the product is created.

What happens when software is removed from a stack?

The product disappears from the active stack, while its usage interval and audit events are retained. This preserves an accurate history of adoption and replacement without presenting removed software as current.

How do I report a problem?

Signed-in members can report a comment, stack, software listing, or another member from the relevant public page. Reports are private. An administrator can dismiss the report or hide the reported record while retaining a moderation audit trail.
